On January 6, Governor Mike Parson announced Sherry Stites would be appointed to fill a vacancy as Phelps County Commissioner for District 1. Stites was sworn into office by County Clerk Laura Johnson and fills the seat vacated by Joey Auxier, who was voted to the seat of Presiding Commissioner in the November election.

Tate Michael Huffman was the first baby born at Phelps Health in Rolla, Missouri, in 2023, arriving bright and early at 3 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023. He weighed 8 pounds, 11.1 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.

ECC receives $4 million for new Rolla facility and campus classroom technology project
East Central College is receiving a total of $4 million from the federal omnibus spending bill signed into law by President Joe Biden. The funding comes in the form of two projects recommended by U.S. Senator Roy Blunt and Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer.
