Commission directs boards on appointments

            Crawford County Commissioners have drafted, approved, and sent out letters to representatives of the three boards that govern the operation of tax-funded entities in the county. The commission is responsible for appointing members to sit on these boards, and in recent months, have been questioned by several citizens about how that occurs.

Pedestrian killed on I-44

            An 18-year-old Sullivan pedestrian was killed in the early hours on Monday, September 26 when the woman entered the roadway on Interstate 44 and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

County Extension office could use more space

            Crawford County’s University of Missouri Extension office is located in a former residence on Water Street in Steelville. The small structure was purchased by the county a number of years ago in order to move the MU Extension office from the space shared with the county health department to allow for more space for that agency. The aging house, however, is not an ideal location for the Extension office.

Several face felony charges

            The Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney’s office has filed felony charges against the following people. Each person is presumed innocent of the charges until proven guilty in a court of competent jurisdiction.

Historic member vote decides Co-op director election

            A historic number of Crawford Electric consumer-members voted in this year’s annual election of directors, even as the on-site meeting on Sept. 14 was the smallest in decades. There were 2,417 voting members this year, likely the highest number of voters in more than 50 years. Almost 94 percent of the total vote comes from the monthlong early voting period; 151 members voted in-person on Wednesday.
