Steelville could drug test students

    During its August 19 meeting, Steelville School Board discussed a proposal to begin random drug screenings for all middle and high school students. The board also discussed COVID-19 protocols, and a proposal to do away with valedictorians and salutatorians.

Council considers cat control concerns

    During its August 16 meeting, the Steelville City Council considered a request to add a cat room to the new animal shelter that is currently under construction. No action was taken.

MRPC to host opioid use disorder awareness walk in Steelville Aug. 21

    The Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) Rural Opioid Initiatives, the Meramec Region’s Rural Opioid Program (MRROP) and Opioid Affected Youth Initiative (OAYI), in partnership with Mid-MO Addiction Awareness Group (MAAG) will host an opioid use disorder awareness walk in Steelville on August 21, beginning at 10 a.m.

First mountain bike trail is nearly ready

    Curt Merseal, representing the Steelville Mountain Bike Collective (SMBC) attended Monday night’s meeting of the Steelville City Council to thank the city for its support of the new mountain bike trail that is currently under construction and announce that the first trail is nearly ready for riders.

Change coming for medical marijuana provider

    In a 3-1 vote Monday night, the Steelville City Council approved a motion to amend an existing city ordinance regulating medical marijuana providers. The move, if ultimately approved by ordinance, could allow a company that serves patients to open a local facility.
