Homecoming coronation set for Friday

    John F. Hodge High School will celebrate its football homecoming on Friday, September 24, as the St. James Tigers take on the Cuba Wildcats. Coronation will be held prior to the game and Phelps County Bank is also offering free food vouchers for those attending.

Truman VA, Mobile Vet Center to provide on-site services for St. James-area veterans

Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital and the Columbia Vet Center are teaming up to provide area Veterans with services such as Veterans Health Administration enrollment, and counseling for post-traumatic stress disorder and military sexual trauma from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28 at the St. James VA Outpatient Clinic, which is located at 207 Matlock Drive.

City close to ideas for ARPA funds assistance

    The city of St. James, working closely with Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC), is coming close to identifying how American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds will be used. Several projects have been identified as places the approximately $750,000 can be spent and the city is narrowing on three specific projects it hopes funding could improve.

Board hears update on next round of ESSER funds

    The St. James Board of Education heard an update an update on Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund money the district is receiving to aid with COVID-19 relief. During the September 15 meeting of the board, Superintendent Tim Webster and Assistant Superintendent April Williams provided new information regarding ESSER III money, which is the third round of COVID relief funding, and how it will be used.

FFA Rodeo raised more than $8,000

    The St. James FFA announced last week the August 13-14 rodeo raised $8,482.61 and was a huge success. Money will be used to aid the FFA fund its many programs.
