Award-winning family singing group The Hoppers will perform a concert at First Assembly of God on Monday, October 25. The performance will be free of charge and the community is invited to attend.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. at the church, located at 300 North Outer Road in St. James. The concert will begin at 7 p.m.
The Hoppers have been singing around the world for more than 60 years, with appearances ranging from presidential religious inaugural ceremonies, at Carnegie Hall in New York, as well as singing at conventions and churches. The group has performed throughout the United States as well as in Israel, Europe, and Africa.
The gospel group formed in 1957 and include family members Claude and Connie, son Dean and his wife Kim, and son Mike Hopper, they began their musical careers in Madison, North Carolina and have grown since their beginnings. Connie, a cancer survivor, is the recipient of the Marvin Norcross Award, in addition to numerous industry and other honors, and she was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Sons Dean and Mike continued the family legacy, lending their musical talents to the group along with Kim.
The event is free to the public and a love offering will be taken during the evening for the group. Duane Garren will emcee for the evening. First Assembly of God is pastored by Mick and Sharon Thrasher, who invite the community to come enjoy the concert.
