Virtual talent show will benefit ALZ research

The Rolla Walk to End Alzheimer’s will hold a Remember Me virtual talent show on July 30 and the deadline to register is July 16. Those 14 and older can submit a pre-recorded two-minute talent video, with the winner receiving a $100 Amazon gift card.

This first-ever event will raise money for Alzheimer’s research and awareness as several other fundraising events had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. “Back in the spring, we had a 5K planned, but we had to postpone it. We are not allowed to have any events in person. Everything we do has to be virtual for the rest of 2020,” explained Julie Felan, of the Rolla Walk to End Alzheimer’s volunteer group. “We are going to stick with the guidelines and concerns and I totally respect that decision.”
Since the other events could not be held, the group decided to hold a virtual talent show would provide a fundraising opportunity and wouldn’t require much to put on. Interested contestants can register at before July 16 to sign up and submit a video not longer than two minutes of their talent. A panel of judges will review the submissions live on Facebook on July 30 at 6 p.m. Judges will review all submissions prior to the talent show for length and content.
“We are asking for a $20 donation to register for the show,” Felan said. All funds raised will benefit the Rolla walk to End Alzheimer’s organization. She added she hopes to bring back in person events next year, as the 5K was very successful last year, but the organization is following rules handed down by the Alzheimer’s Association this year and believes this event will be a fun way to raise money safely.
